On 11 September 2021 I was a mentor at Girls.js in Łódź. Workshops for women starting with JavaScript. From the start it felt like a good day – energy and collaboration.
The organisers went for small groups: one mentor per few participants. That let me adapt the pace to each person, help with difficulties and build rapport. I used to struggle with problems on my own; I know how much difference support makes.
For me the key things were: individual approach, room to ask questions without fear, and quick clarification when something broke. Participants learned in a safe setting; mentors could share experience and learn from beginners’ fresh perspective.
Watching the group get through the tasks was satisfying. Thanks to the organisers, participants and other mentors for that day. If you’re considering Girls.js – worth a try.
