Introduction
Hi! On June 16, 2022, in the energetic city of Łódź, I had the invaluable pleasure of once again serving as a mentor during the Girls.js workshops. This event, aimed at women wanting to start their exciting journey through the cybernetic labyrinths of JavaScript programming, radiated an atmosphere of openness, cooperation, and mutual support from the very first moments.
I felt a day full of:
- Inspiration and collective discovery of new possibilities
- Knowledge sharing and relationship building
- Support in developing programming skills
My Role as a Mentor
I had the honor of leading a team of three extremely talented participants who, with great commitment, were taking their first steps in the world of frontend. Together we went through the basics:
- HTML – document structure
- CSS – styling and visual presentation
- JavaScript – interactivity and application logic
Discovering the secrets of coding in the dynamic light of cyberspace, each participant brought her unique perspective to the group, which made the work not only effective but also inspiring. This experience reminded me how fundamental diversity and openness to new ideas are in the learning process.
Workshop Timeline
The workshops proceeded in an extremely positive atmosphere – together we mastered the planned materials, and each participant could ask questions and clarify doubts on an ongoing basis. What’s more, at the end we had time for additional tasks and a lively discussion about programming and development perspectives in this fascinating industry. Such conversations always remind me how important openness to new ideas and constant search for inspiration are. The mutual exchange of experience and knowledge was an invaluable value of that day.
Individual Approach
One of the key assets of these workshops was the individual approach to each participant. I could devote time to:
- Personalized explanations – tailored to the level of understanding
- Support in solving encountered problems – immediate help
- Motivating for further development – building self-confidence
I believe such an approach builds self-confidence and allows for faster overcoming of subsequent challenges on the path to mastering programming. It was thanks to individual work that I could better get to know the needs of each person and adjust the pace of learning to her capabilities.
Reflections and Gratitude
Watching the learning process of my mentees and seeing how they overcame new challenges with each subsequent task was a great satisfaction for me. As an enthusiast of knowledge sharing, I deeply believe that even short, intensive workshops can become a key element in the development of a future programming career. Each such meeting confirms my belief that cooperation, education, and mutual support are the foundation of our industry.
In conclusion, I would like to sincerely thank the Girls.js organizers for the opportunity to participate and share knowledge, as well as all the participants for their commitment and openness. I hope we will meet at similar events many more times – because it is thanks to such initiatives that our community becomes stronger and more inspiring. Thank you also to all the mentors and supporting people whose commitment and passion are invaluable for the development of this initiative.
