For me and the team it was an important confirmation that we were on the right track.\n\nMobile Trends Awards has been one of the main awards in the mobile industry for years. The jury evaluates execution quality, fit for users, innovation and recognition. Knowing KanapkaMan was among the nominees motivated us to keep going.\n\nThe MOBILE FOODTECH category combined what I care about: mobile tech and changing how companies order and receive catering. Over the months working on the app I focused on making the interface intuitive, processes simple and the user experience consistent. Experts noticing that mattered to me.\n\nThe nomination was down to the whole team: designers (interface), developers (backend, integrations), testers (reliability). Thanks to them for their commitment.\n\nWe didn’t win the main award, but the nomination alone was a success and a sign we were on the right path. That let me adapt the pace to each person, help with difficulties and build rapport. I used to struggle with problems on my own; I know how much difference support makes.\n\nFor me the key things were: individual approach, room to ask questions without fear, and quick clarification when something broke. Participants learned in a safe setting; mentors could share experience and learn from beginners’ fresh perspective.\n\nWatching the group get through the tasks was satisfying. COVID-19 moved everything online; I wanted to see if we could support participants the same way. Energy and willingness to learn were real despite the screen.\n\nBefore the workshops I thought about how to provide support without \"looking over someone’s shoulder\". The organisers took care of logistics and tech, so we could focus on learning. The materials were clear and matched the level; each task built on the previous one. As a mentor I could focus on explaining nuances and solving concrete problems.\n\nCodeSandbox with the Live option turned out to be a game changer. I had real-time access to all participants’ code, could switch between environments quickly, catch bugs before they caused frustration and show live how I debug. Instead of \"do it like this\" – the whole thought process. For beginners that’s a big difference.\n\nI was worried whether we’d manage a warm atmosphere online. Doubts disappeared in the first minutes. Participants asked questions and experimented with code. The moment when someone goes from \"I think it’s broken\" to \"oh, it works!\" reminds me why I care about sharing knowledge. Those small wins – first bug fixed, understanding a loop, styling an element – build a real interest in programming.\n\nThe online format, forced by the pandemic, opened the door for people who couldn’t have made it to in-person workshops. Online mentoring needs a different rhythm though: check more often if everyone’s following, encourage questions. In a virtual space it’s easy to get lost, so we had to be more attentive as mentors.\n\nGirls.js teaches concrete skills, but just as important is building confidence that programming is for everyone. For me mentoring is a way to give back part of what I’ve learned. Thanks to the organisers and participants. This one was different: for the first time I gave students access to AI tools from the start (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, Roo Code) and watched how it affected learning. For me it was an experiment – AI as a way to focus on concepts instead of hours of debugging. Students learned to communicate with AI, evaluate suggestions and decide when to accept them.\n\nStack: Vue 3, Vite, Vue Router, Vuetify\u002FTailwind, Pinia, Firebase, Vue I18n. I also showed alternatives: Supabase, AWS Amplify, Convex.\n\nProgramme: from HTML, CSS and JavaScript basics through Git\u002FGitHub, VS Code and Copilot. Styling – when to use Vuetify, when Tailwind. Pinia for state; AI helped design store architecture. Firebase – Auth, Firestore, hosting, real-time. Vue I18n with translation files generated with AI.\n\nAI tools in practice: Copilot – inline suggestions, learning patterns. Cursor – editing multiple files via change descriptions, refactoring. Windsurf – architectural decisions, spotting security issues. Roo Code – framework-specific patterns and optimisations. Takeaways: benefits are speed and room to experiment; challenges are over-relying on AI, checking security and code quality. Rule: always understand the code before accepting, treat AI like a junior under supervision.\n\nStudents built full apps using AI. The difference was clear: those who used AI to support their own thinking did better than those who relied only on suggestions. Prompt engineering turned out to be as important a skill as coding. Code review became critical – with fast generation, judging quality and security is essential.\n\nChallenges: architectural complexity, learning to communicate with AI effectively, convincing students that AI supports rather than replaces thinking. Lesson: success still needs understanding, practice and learning. AI is a tool; the human decides the goal and judges the result.\n\nThanks to the students and the Innovations Project organisers.
