For me it was combining learning to code with building confidence and breaking barriers in the industry.

Working in small groups let me adapt the pace to each person, create space for questions and experiments, and help with both technical issues and the frustration of “code not working.” I treat mentoring as accompanying people in learning, not just transferring knowledge.

## Challenges and successes

### Online mentoring (2020 edition)

COVID-19 forced workshops online. With CodeSandbox Live we kept interactivity and live support despite the distance. Turned out the willingness to learn carries well through the screen.

### On-site workshops (Łódź)

At the Łódź editions I could watch teamwork in person. Watching participants solve problems together and get excited about their first working scripts was satisfying.

Girls.js is built on accessible knowledge (workshops for people from different backgrounds), diversity in IT, and support – nobody is left alone with a console error.

Taking part as a mentor gave me a chance to share experience and a reminder that education and mutual help build community. The shift from “I don’t get it” to “it works!” in participants is what stays with you.

## Related blog posts

- [Girls.js Online Workshops – Mentoring in Times of Pandemic](/blog/girls-js-online)
- [Girls.js Workshops Łódź 3 – Personal Account](/blog/girls-js-3)
- [Girls.js Łódź 4 – Personal Account](/blog/girls-js-4)","/images/blog/girls-js-brand-010.webp",[],[46,47,48,49,16],"JavaScript","HTML","CSS","CodeSandbox","education","https://girlsjs.pl",["Date","2021-11-14T00:00:00.000Z"],["Date","2022-06-16T00:00:00.000Z"],[55,66,77
"freszkids-pl","Freszkids.pl","Platform streamlining meal ordering for schools from catering companies.
